Although 2018 is an election year, the nominations for a new committee saw very little change.

IN the last year, Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch has responded to 926 incidents, including burglaries, home invasions, three cash in transit heists, one hijacking, one murder and several fires.

“Can you imagine what those figures would be without us on the roads?” inquires Patrol Commander, Imtiaz Sahib at the somewhat poorly attended Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch Annual General Meeting at the Klipkerk hall.

Lt Col Zwane of the Vryheid SAPS attended the meeting, thanking the committee and patrolling members of the organisation for their dedication and assistance in fighting crime in Vryheid.

“Let us not dismantle this group,” he implores, as he weighs up the challenges faced by the volunteers who have committed themselves and their own private resources to ensuring the safety of the community at their own expense. “Let’s keep it growing…”

Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch Chairman, André Rheder, thanked the patrolling members who attended the AGM, as well as two members of the public, for their presence at the meeting.

Although 2018 is an election year, the nominations for a new committee saw very little change. With Riaan Lotter stepping down, the only change to the existing committee, once all the nominations were considered and noted, was that of Treasurer. Keith Sparrow was the only candidate nominated for this position.

Once the votes were cast and counted, it was announced that André Rheder would remain as Chairman, Imtiaz Sahib as Patrol Commander, Chris Marais as Communications Officer and Keith Sparrow would join the committee as the new Treasurer, filling the void left behind by outgoing treasurer, Riaan Lotter.
