Lightning razes a Ntabamhlophe family home

Their immediate needs are groceries and clothing, especially for the six grandchildren who are aged between six and 15

In the blink of an eye, a Ntabamhlophe family lost everything.

The family of 12 had a terrifying and devastating experience last Tuesday. The wrath of Mother Nature was unleashed during a thunderstorm that afternoon.

Natasha, who was given the role of family spokesperson, described how she was sitting in the dining room when at about 2.30pm a “ball of fire” fell into her grandmother’s room.

This lightning bolt quickly started to fire up and within minutes, the entire house was ablaze. The family tried in vain to extinguish the flames as it devoured everything in its trail.

Appliances, clothes and groceries in all seven rooms were swallowed up by the fire.

“Even our study books were burnt. We have nothing … no food, no electricity, not even school uniforms,” said Ms Sithole.

The family has had to cram into a two-room outbuilding on their property. Neighbours are currently generously feeding and have provided clothes for the family.

This dire situation has made the family appeal to locals to come to their aid. Their immediate needs are groceries and clothing, especially for the six grandchildren who are aged between six and 15-years-old.

Inkatha Freedom Party Councillor Mthembeni Majola has also called on locals to be generous, especially as we approach the festive season.

“These family members should not feel this hardship but should feel the love of united South Africans who care for one another,” he said.
