Seetha Amicka welcomed all the fellow sisters and went on to explain that women are the goddesses in the home as well as their significant role they play in the community.
Physiotherapist Sulochana Naidoo then had a conversation on posture, poise and position. Speaking on posture, she asked everyone to begin correcting their posture and observing the difference it makes in one’s physical appearance.

“We need to nurture the body, mind and soul,” she said.
Sadly with the amount of nods, it is safe to say not many make time to invest in their well being. Mrs Naidoo encouraged the women to take up hobbies that they are interested in and that would be beneficial to them.
She went on to add: “This can help you become more positive; uplift others, cheer them on and not drag them down.”
She ended with this quote: “Behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back.”

Rebecca Ramjohit from Battle Axe Ministries was next to take to the stage. The lass spoke on things such as confidence, opinions, saying no and asking for help.
“We need to celebrate our women. Celebrate women like Dr Badul, Nafiza Gunkel, Ashara Sookraj, Sheryl Lane, Monica Gobinpersad and my mum. We all should be celebrated,” she exclaimed.

With the rise in domestic abuse, Magistrate Mrs A Sookraj enlightened the attendees on women’s rights and where to file for a protection order.
“Very often we find ourselves or someone we know at the hands of women abuse. Domestic abuse is a very broad act.
“Domestic abuse affects everyone, it is not specific. It cuts across gender or status and has far reaching consequences,” explained Mrs Sookraj to her attentive audience.

She explained further that the court will look at the domestic relationship, and said that protection orders are filed at the court and not at the police station.
The different types of abuse mentioned were physical, emotional, verbal psychological and economic. There are also harassment, stalking and damage to property.
The evening ended with tasty treats and tea while many remained to socialise. Estcourt Sai Centre wishes to thank all the women who made the time to attend and show their support.
