Her studies were put into practice when she was investigating a rape case that took place in the Acaciavale area last year. A victim, who was 14 years old at the time, was lured to the house of her pastor, where she was raped.

The incident affected the girl so badly that it took her a month to finally tell her mother.

A case docket was opened for investigation and it was assigned to Miya.

The time lapse between the crime and its reporting left the crime scene totally destroyed. No DNA evidence was available to link the accused to the rape. The victim was interviewed by Detective Miya, who used her knowledge and experience to help give the victim the support and courage she needed, as well as to build her self-confidence.

The victim was the star witness, who gave excellent testimony in court.

The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment, he was found unfit to possess a firearm and his name is to be added in the register of sexual offenders. He was also found unfit to work with children in the future.
