Man tells SAPS he was hired to kill

A man was approached to assassinate three people.

A man recently tipped off police that he had been hired to assassinate three people.

The would-be killer alleged that he was approached on Victoria Street by a man who wanted to hire him to kill another man, his brother and lawyer to prevent them from testifying.

The man who wanted to hire the killer is implicated in a kidnapping case and is due to appear in Court. The incident is related to a case opened in Dundee in February 2018 when a group of around nine Ethiopian nationals allegedly forced the owner of a clothing shop on Victoria Street into a Toyota Fortuner. Another vehicle followed the Fortuner towards the Dundee/Vryheid road.

The victim was assaulted and threatened with firearms. He told police that his assailants threatened to rape him. He was robbed of R20,ooo that he had in his pockets and bound him with rope.

Upon spotting an approaching police vehicle, the men dropped their firearms and bundled the man into the mini bus vehicle that had been travelling behind the Fortuner. The victim was left in the veld. The gunmen drove off but were later stopped by police and taken in for questioning.

Names have been withheld by the Dundee SAPS.
