Man sentenced for killing girlfriend’s boyfriend

Man found guilty of brutal murder

Thamsanqa Goodlucky Nkabinde (36) has been convicted of murder and sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of Skhumbuzo Mthabela on January 2, 2018.

Mr Mthabela, a married taxi owner from Gauteng, was visiting his girlfriend in Koppie Allen, Dannhauser, when they were spotted by Mr Nkabinde, the girlfriend’s other boyfriend. He confronted the couple, but they drove off in Mr Mthabela’s taxi.

Mr Nkabinde gave chase in his vehicle, following the couple to Dannhauser, where he managed to corner them.
He then approached the vehicle, broke the window and attacked Mr Mthabela, brutally stabbing him in the stomach.

Mr Mthabela was rushed to hospital but sadly died along the way.
Police were alerted to the crime and rushed to the scene.

Mr Nkabinde had already fled but Detective Sergeant Bongani Mbatha, who was lead detective on the case, tracked him down and he was arrested.

He first appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court before the matter was transferred to the Regional Court in Dundee where he was eventually sentenced.

He was found guilty on November 2, 2018, nine months after the brutal murder.

The Dannhauser Station Commander has praised Detective Sgt Mbatha for his commitment to the case which led to justice being served.
