
Two men, aged 39 and 43, made an appearance in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court yesterday (February 1), facing charges of being in possession of a firearm without a licence.
On Thursday (January 31), Ladysmith K9 Unit officers responded to a complaint in the Emagogoweni area of Steadville. They interviewed a victim of domestic violence and established that the victim had been threatened with a firearm. The officers went to the suspect’s workplace, where they interviewed him.

He did not have a firearm registered in his name. Further investigation resulted in them recovering a revolver from the suspect. The revolver did not have any ammunition in it.
In a separate case, Uthukela Cluster Crime Intelligence officers sourced valuable information concerning a firearm that was used in a shooting that resulted in a murder last weekend.
The officers traced the suspect to the Kwa Mntandi area of Ladysmith, where they recovered a pistol. The pistol did not have any ammunition in it.
Both the recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were involved in any other crimes in the country.
