
Police officers came under attack from an angry mob in Peacetown after a woman’s body was found on Monday morning (February 4).
The body was discovered by members of the community, who immediately alerted police.
However, when officers arrived at the scene, they were greeted by disgruntled residents who started hitting and throwing bottles at the police vans.
The mob wanted them to hand over the suspect who was taken in for questioning.

The large crowd that had gathered at the scene chanted, screamed and shouted while the SAPS conducted an investigation. Community members threateningly followed the police vehicles on foot as they were leaving the scene.
Police say the woman was reported missing on Saturday, February 2, after failing to arrive home the previous night.
The initial search for the woman was hampered by the severe storms over the weekend.
The suspect (31) has since been charged with murder and appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (February 6).
The woman has been identified as Zanele Anna Mwelase (35).
The anguished cries of distraught family members could be heard echoing at the scene as the woman’s body was ctaken away by mortuary staff and police.
