ANC have yet to vote on a new Mayor
Emalahleni Regional ANC Secretary, Chris Mhlophe, said Nkosi had approached them about his resignation. “The mayor did inform us that he was resigning, citing plans of focusing on law advocacy.

It has been just over a month since Makhosini Nkosi resigned as mayor of Newcastle.
Councillor E.M Nkosi left his post in January without any explanation, and the Newcastle community is still questioning what could have prompted his resignation before finishing his term in office.
After many attempts to get hold of him personally failed, the ANC in the Emalahleni Region confirmed his resignation.

Emalahleni Regional ANC Secretary, Chris Mhlophe, said Nkosi had approached them about his resignation.
“The mayor did inform us that he was resigning, citing plans of focusing on law advocacy.
“We all know that he is an advocate, so it made sense to us that he wanted to put more energy into that. There was nothing sinister about his resignation. We have wished him well and we hope he succeeds in whatever he pursues in the future.”
Democratic Alliance Caucus Leader in Newcastle, Councillor Bebsie Cronje said they believed the resignation was a long time coming.
“We noted the resignation of Advocate Makhosini Nkosi. The recent change in the ANC leadership as well as the internal party strife, both of which are open secrets, is without a doubt contributory.
More recently his reasons for his resignation citing threats on his life and that of his family have been made public. It is very unfortunate that the chaos within the ANC, despite the promise of a new dawn by their party president Cyril Ramaphosa, continues to plague the town and country.”
Nkosi had previously stated his other passions were to build communities, and he wanted to delve more into that by creating and forming his own non-profit organisation.
The ANC have commented that in the interim, Deputy Mayor Councillor Dudu Sibiya is occupying office, as per procedure. Mhlophe said the party is yet to vote on who will be officially elected as the new mayor.
