A man, who was accused of ‘illegally’ transporting commuters, was stopped and assaulted by taxi drivers.
Police said the incident occurred at about 7.15am last Friday on Ziga Street, near the Sibongile hostel complex.
The driver (43), who was not named by police, and four colleagues were on their way to work when an unspecified number of taxi drivers pulled their car over. The driver was accused of transporting commuters illegally. He was slapped and his car keys taken.
The driver opened a charge of assault but at this stage there appear to be no arrests.
