Two men, aged 21 and 52, were recently arrested for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition in Ladysmith.
They made their first appearance in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (March 7).
The men were arrested by officers from the Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) Unit on Tuesday, February 5.
One suspect was arrested in the CBD when officers intercepted a vehicle and searched it.
The driver was found in possession of a 9mm pistol. The pistol was loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and its serial number had been filed off.

The second suspect was arrested on a farm in the Ladysmith area. He was found in possession of a revolver and 21 rounds of various calibre ammunition.
Operations of this nature will continue in an attempt to rid the area of illegal firearms and ammunition. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to see if they have been used in any crimes in the province.
