Suspects appear in court again for prominent businessman’s murder

He was stabbed and burnt, and his body left in an abandoned hotel

Two suspects appeared in the Newcastle Regional Court on Wednesday, March 6, for the murder of prominent Ladysmith businessman Haroon Warasally, who was the owner of Pelican Security.

On the evening of June 2, 2016, alarm bells were triggered with Mr Warasally’s family when he hadn’t returned home by around 10pm. His son and a family friend went out to search for him.

Heading along the N11, they spotted his bakkie parked near an abandoned hotel. However, there was no sign of him.

After searching the area and turning up nothing, the family reported the matter to Newcastle police. Officers and relatives returned to the scene, and Mr Warasally’s body was eventually found in the abandoned hotel.

The prominent businessman had been stabbed and his body burnt.

The trial date has been set for April 1.
