On the evening of Monday, February 25, a vehicle and the driver were taken by the strong currents at a low bridge in the Ngwenya area of Weenen.
A search was launched the following morning and the vehicle was recovered. The driver, however, could not be located. Several air searches were conducted by the SAPS Air Wing, while SAPS Search & Rescue officers and police divers continued to comb the river.
