The awaiting trial prisoners who escaped earlier today, have been apprehended.
The prisoners were being transported from Vryheid to Nongoma when they managed their escape.
Initial reports from the scene indicate that the prisoners overpowered police officers who were transporting them.
They stole their firearms and cellphones before fleeing.
Some prisoners fled with the vehicle while others were found in the nearby field.
Police, though, have reapprehended all the prisoners and recovered the firearms as well.
