Five prisoners are on the run after the vehicle they were being transported in was ambushed.
The vehicle was transporting awaiting trial prisoners from Nongoma to Vryheid when it was ambushed near Ngome.
It is believed that five of the 11 prisoners were taken along with the weapons of the police officials.
A manhunt is underway for the missing prisoners.
