As part of its ongoing #CaxtonCares Campaign the Newcastle Advertiser and the Newcastle FCS Unit have joined forces to create comfort packs for victims of abuse.

These abuse victims consist of mostly women, children and babies who have suffered traumatic experiences.

Sales rep, Jess Naidoo, of the Newcastle Advertiser with just some of the donations for the Caxton Cares campaign.

Some of the victims are homed in places of safety such as the Newcastle Crisis Centre, but lack the basic necessities like clean clothes and toiletries.

“Many of the victims, especially those who are abused at the hand of rapists, often still wear the clothes from when they were attacked. Once these items of clothing are taken for forensic testing; the victims do not have anything to clothe themselves in,” explains commander of the FCS Unit, Captain Nagesh Moothilal.

It is for this reason that collecting personal items and food to donate to these victims, has become a dire necessity.

These items include clothing for women, children and babies, blankets, underwear, shoes, socks, toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, lotion, Vaseline, nappies, canned foods, baby formula 1,2 and 3. These are the items that make up ‘comfort packs’.

The community of Newcastle has shown their immense care and compassion for the victims’ plight and donated in abundance since the launch of the campaign.

However, more items are needed to make up the packs. Blankets, shoes, women and baby clothing were dropped off at the Newcastle Advertiser offices.

“We thank the donors for their generosity. However, we still need other items such as nappies, canned foods, non-perishable foods and toys for the abused children,” says Advertising Manager Cherryl Mungal.

The campaign will be ongoing for the next four months and the community is encouraged to continue to support this compassionate initiative.
