On Monday, April 8, 22 very excited Grade 6 and 7 learners, together with Mrs Viljoen, Mrs Catlett and Mr and Mrs Boshoff, travelled to T.O. Strand for a week filled with fun and adventure.
Along the way the group experienced a ride on a mini-train and a unique experience dipping candles in hot wax, where after the candles were beautifully decorated.
On reaching T.O. Strand, the two teams, namely the Mussels and the Oysters, worked out their team songs and games were played to encourage team work.
After breakfast every morning learners and teachers had a special quiet time on the beach, that was followed by a wake up and shake up routine.
Snorkelling in the rock pools was the first event of the day.
While the learners were kayaking and ziplining, the television show “Pak jou Soetkys” was filmed as well and the excited group formed part of the show that will be broadcast on Saturday, April 20, at 7:30pm on DSTV Channel 195 or ETV extra.
Building a raft was quite challenging and building a bridge required more logic. Collecting and classifying shells, building sand models, wall climbing, abseiling, problem solving, obstacle courses, shooting with a bow and arrow, were fun, challenging, but rewarding activities.
The talent show on the last night showed that Ichthus learners really have much talent in acting and singing and some definitely are stand up comedians!
Learners were encouraged to work together as a team and PTPTCC was an acronym that was used and practised often: Planning Teamwork, Participation, Trust, Concentration and Co-operation.
A night walk on the beach, using torches, was another highlight and learners had to look for different objects. Swimming in the sea, under the watchful eyes of the teachers, instructors and lifeguards, was an awesome experience.

Before travelling back to Dundee, a very relaxing boat trip on the Umtamvuna River was enjoyed, whilst mallets almost jumped into the boat and a leguaan was observed swimming in the river.
Remains of the old Pont could be seen on the banks of the Umtamvuna River.
Ichthus would like to thank the teachers as well as Mrs Catlett and Mr Boshoff for accompanying the learners to T.O. Strand. We were very happy to reach our destination safely.
To God be the glory!
