Crèche in Zwelisha is growing in leaps and bounds

Dedication and hard work has seen Slindokuhle Community Crèche win several accolades

Slindokuhle Community Crèche is a non-profit organisation situated in the Zwelisha area with Mrs Jabulile Gladys Qumbisa as the chairperson. She is very fond of children and in 2007 it was this passion and the need in her community she started Slindokuhle Community Crèche at her home.

In January she started with just 10 children and by December that year she had 25, now the crèche holds 85 children. She used her personal finance and a few donations that she managed to get from the people and businesses of Estcourt to fund this project.

Her journey started from door to door donations with very little support. It was during these early years that Mrs Qumbisa found Blurock Quarries and presented her situation. The company had heard her plea and assisted Mrs Qumbisa on her mission. Blurock Quarries had built two classrooms, a kitchen, an office and absolution facilities for staff and the children in 2011.

In 2013 a jungle gym was erected for the children’s development and entertainment and in 2015 Blurock Quarries had sponsored a garden to teach the children how to plant vegetables and to sustain the kitchen. The government also assisted with some funding for the Slindokuhle Community Crèche. The crèche provides a safe centre for the children in the community where two meals and a snack are provided for the pupils. A day at the crèche starts at 7am and ends at 3pm.

With the dedication of the staff at Slindokuhle Community Crèche and Mrs Qumbisa in 2017, Slindokuhle Community Crèche was awarded second runner up in Best Early Development at provincial level by the National Development Agency.

They were also award Best Nutrition category of the year 2017 at National Level. Slindokuhle Community Crèche was the only representation for KwaZulu-Natal under nutrition.
