“It was with great excitement that we had our first annual Landbou Family Farm Festival, combined with our Open Day on April 27.”
Although the weather was misty to begin with, it turned out to be a lovely sunny day.
The day started with a mountain bike ride and a fun run, with the festival also consisting of a playing area for children, a petting zoo, a variety of stalls, a strongman competition, boere sport, a lovely tea garden, music and song, and Karnallie’s lovely dancers, Working with Fire and most importantly, the Mini Show with Landbou’s own ossies, calves and sheep.
“We had horse riding and ‘train’ riding, and children were allowed to walk with Landbou’s learners alongside steers, sheep and cattle. Needless to say, the animal part of the show got a lot of attention from parents and children.”
Vryheid Landbou High School apologised to the public for one or two hiccups, but said for a first try, most of the day went off without a hitch, with lovely surroundings, friendly people and lots of fun.
“We thank all the people from all spheres, who offered their help to make everything even better next year. We also thank each and every one who supported us to make this day a huge success. Thank you to the public, who came to see what was happening at Vryheid Landbou, for the lovely stalls put up and the businesses which gave their support.”
Many Vryheid residents visited the school for the first time during the festival, and were totally astonished there was even such a school, how big it was and what activities make Landbou such a unique place.
“Lastly, we want to thank all our staff and learners who worked so hard to make this day so special. We are very proud of you. Next year, we will have the Vryheid Landbou Family Farm Festival again!”
