Learners made aware of the important of learning

The event was attended by six different primary schools

A National Book Mobile Day event was hosted on Wednesday, April 10, at Mnyanda Primary School in Umhlumayo.

The event was attended by six different primary schools.

The main aim was to expose a mobile library to children who live in rural areas and do not have libraries near them. It was also to encourage reading among children at primary schools.

“Seeing those children listening attentively to the short stories that were read out to them made me happy. The fact that teachers from different schools came out in numbers with their pupils shows how much they were interested in this event.

“What made me the happiest is that teachers from schools that attended are now interested in initiating libraries in their areas because they now see the importance of reading,” said Phumzile Mavimbela, the organiser of the event and also an Outreach librarian at Alfred Duma Library.

The event was also attended by representatives from the Department of Arts & Culture and Nal’ibali.
