A man was arrested shortly after a fatal shooting in Bergville on Thursday (May 9) due to the quick thinking of Bergville station commander Lt Col Ramlagan. The arrest was made in Ladysmith.
It is alleged that the shooting followed a heated argument between a 46-year-old man and the suspect.
The deceased sustained several gunshot wounds.
The suspect fled the scene after the shooting and made his way to Ladysmith.
Bergville station commander Lt Col Ramlagan wasted no time in notifying the Ladysmith K9 Unit, as well as Ladysmith Visible Policing officers. She immediately made her way to Ladysmith to oversee the arrest.

The man was arrested at a local hitchhiking spot after getting off a taxi that was destined for Johannesburg.
Quick-acting officers pounced on the suspect before he had a chance to get rid of the murder weapon. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol loaded with seven rounds of ammunition. The pistol is licensed in his name.
The man will make an appearance in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court today (Monday, May 13), facing a charge of murder. The deceased has not yet been identified.
