Estcourt Secondary School learners wow at cultural competition

Learners received prizes for their participation in speech, poetry and Zulu dancing competitions

Estcourt Secondary School participated in an IsiZulu Cultural Competition at Carter High School in Pietermaritzburg on May 10.

Weeks of hard work, dedication and practice were put in before signing up for the speech, poetry and Zulu dancing competitions.

The Estcourt Secondary School cast members of the Sarafina drama.

The learners also rendered a comedy called ‘The Jokers’ and a drama entitled ‘Sarafina’, which was directed by Ms C Easthorpe. The stage was electric and the crowd appreciative of the stunning performances.

Estcourt Secondary went up against Carter High, Rustle High, Ladysmith High and Estcourt High schools.

The boys get into formation ahead of the Inqolobane Challenge.

The Estcourt Secondary School Zulu dance troupe dominated the presentations on the day and had the crowd on their feet, ululating in excitement. As they left the stage, stamping their feet to the beat of the drums, they sang “we are the nation of Jordan”.

The emotional Principal, Ms Jordan, was deeply moved by the unexpected acknowledgement. The learners received certificates and walked away with shiny trophies.
