Alleged witch killed by community members in Ekuvukeni

A man (48) was shot dead in Ekuvukeni on Thursday evening by two boys believed to be teenagers.

It is alleged that the man, known as ‘Skebhe’, was shot at his mother’s home. This killing is thought to be linked to the murder of a soldier whose body was dumped in a river. Skebhe’s sons were arrested for the soldier’s murder.

After the shooting on Thursday evening, the victim was taken to a clinic in the area, where community members gathered and told the nurses not to treat the man.

The community believed him to be a very powerful umthakathi (witch).

Skebhe passed away at the clinic. He had sustained several gunshot wounds.

Thereafter, an angry mob torched his Nissan Navara and his mother’s home.
