Nomaswazi Shabalala was again in the witness box in court yesterday (May 23), giving evidence regarding the murder of Simingaye Oscar Hlatshwayo.
The State prosecutor cross-examined Shabalala, who is one of three murder suspects in this case. The prosecutor continued to explore the relationship between the accused and the deceased. He contradicted Shabalala’s testimony that they had a good working relationship by producing a letter written to the municipal manager by Mr Hlatshwayo that he intended to take disciplinary action against her.
The prosecutor said that two other State witnesses (both municipal employees) were willing to testify that the relationship between Hlatshwayo and Shabalala was not good.

Court adjourned for lunch and when proceedings resumed at 2pm, the prosecutor revealed that he had just received a letter of intention to suspend Shabalala from the municipality. The prosecutor asked whether she had seen the letter and she replied in the affirmative.
The case was then postponed until Monday (May 27).
The two co-accused (believed to be hit-men hired by Shabalala to commit the murder) are being held at Ladysmith Correctional Services, while Shabalala is at Mayville Prison in Chatsworth, Durban.
