Sarel rugby lions roar against Hilton

The boys showed true dedication and perseverance throughout these matches, and truly demonstrated a 'never surrender' attitude.

This past Saturday, Sarel Cilliers’ rugby boys travelled to Pietermaritzburg to play Hilton College.

The clash showed that schools in the district have a long way to go, to match schools in the Durban/Pietermaritzburg area. Despite Sarel Cilliers being one of the stronger schools in the Northern KwaZulu-Natal, all sides went down conceding around 50 points.

Sarel is nevertheless proud of the boys, who showed the ‘Never Surrender’ attitude throughout the games. The school thanks Mr van Staden, for allowing the boys to take on bigger rugby schools this season. Without the financial support and belief from the governing body, it would be impossible to give the boys this exposure and experience.

Looking back over the past season, Sarel Cilliers took on several big rugby schools outside the area including Welkom-Gimnasium, Kearsney College, Durban High School, Hilton College and Glenwood High School. The first team alone played 28 matches, compared to other NKZN schools who average 13 games per season.

“Sarel Cilliers thanks all the coaches and players for their hard work, and the sponsors and supporters for their backing through the season. The school wishes the sevens rugby sides everything of the best for the tournaments next term.”

Action Cricket

Last Friday, Sarel Cilliers A and B teams faced Dundee High School on the action cricket pitch. Unfortunately, the boys lost both matches. The teams are still developing and honing skills, and have shown true dedication and perseverance throughout these tough games.

The bowlers of the match for Sarel were Zande and Jarren, who took the most wickets. The Sarel batsmen of the match were Zandrè and Ayush. Well done to them.
