No breakthrough in teen kidnapping case

The girls managed to alert their father shortly before their cellphones were taken away, and escape when the vehicle slowed down entering Pomeroy.

Dundee detectives has made little progress in the alleged kidnapping, which took place in central Dundee just over a month ago.

During the incident, two teenage sisters claimed they were abducted but managed to escape their captors. Mother of the girls, Juliet Khoza told the Courier although a case of kidnapping had been opened, police were yet to make an arrest.

“The police called us on Tuesday last week, and we were told they are still investigating, but no arrests have been made. I just hope justice will prevail, as the perpetrators are still out there roaming the streets. This is very unsettling for us as a family.”

Mrati (19) and Mpile Khoza (18) were walking on Victoria Street near the Princess Magogo building, at about midday on May 2. They were apparently approached by an elderly African woman, who the girls did not know. The woman asked the sisters to assist her with carrying a heavy box to her bakkie. As they loaded the box into the load bin, the elderly woman pushed them inside, locked the canopy and drove off.

The girls managed to alert their father shortly before their cellphones were taken away, and escape when the vehicle slowed down entering Pomeroy. The girls are still traumatised and have no idea if they were possible human trafficking victims, or would have been held for ransom. Anyone with information is advised to report it to the police.
