Watch: Massive fire breaks out at Ithala landfill site

A fire broke out at the Ithala landfill site in the Pieters industrial area on Tuesday (June 18).

How the fire started is unknown at this stage.

Thick black smoke was seen billowing high into the air from as far as Ladysmith town.

The Ladysmith Fire Department and also a fire truck from the Ithala industrial area responded to the scene.

The blaze spread quickly, helped by a breeze that was blowing.

Firefighters worked tirelessly and managed to contain the inferno.
