New temple priest is here to conduct all your prayers

Brahma Shree Govindraj Gurukul is a young, dynamic man who was the first to qualify as a Gurukul on the North Coast

The Hindu Thirukootam & Shree Ganaser Temple of Ladysmith, established in 1910, welcomed its new Gurukul (priest) recently. Brahma Shree Govindraj Gurukul is South African and hails from the North Coast of KZN.

His arrival at the temple was due to Gurukul Krishnamoorthy (previous priest) moving to Newcastle with his family.

Brahma Shree Govindraj Gurukul is a young, dynamic man who was the first to qualify as a Gurukul on the North Coast. He has 25 years’ experience as a priest, having served at the Stanger Siva Temple, Azaadville Shree Subramanian Temple in Gauteng, Thirupathi Temple in Tongaat, Trenance Park Sivan Kovil in Verulam and also leads a family temple in Tongaat.

Brahma Shree Govindraj Gurukul will be conducting all major prayers on the Hindu calendar, as well as weddings, funeral services, car prayers, Navaghara prayers (nine planets), housewarming prayers and the reading of the almanac (book). His prayers will be conducted in Sanskrit, Tamil and Telegu.

On December 10 last year, the temple hosted a formal farewell function in honour of Gurukul Krishnamoorthy.

In his address, temple president Mr GP Govender thanked Gurukul Krishnamoorthy for his 10 years of loyal service to the temple and creating a positive impact on the institution.

Mr Max Pillay, speaking on behalf of the trustees of the temple, also thanked the Guru for his contribution over the past decade in ensuring that the temple lived up to the expectations of the Hindu community. He wished Guru Krishnamoorthy well on his new venture in Newcastle.

Other speakers at the function also praised Gurukul for his positive influence in Ladysmith.

In his address, Gurukul Krishnamoorthy thanked officials and members of the temple for accepting him and his family with kindness. The Guru and his family were presented with gifts and tokens of appreciation by senior members of the temple.
