Teacher keeps structure going during lockdown

The Grade 7 teacher aims to keep learners up to date with their schoolwork.

The national lockdown hasn’t been easy on many people, especially learners who are missing out on valuable schooling.

Technology Teacher at Dannhauser Secondary School, Ryan Naicker is hoping to keep his Grade 7 learners up to date with work, by giving them homework via the Courier’s website. Today’s lesson is on structures.

TECHNOLOGY – TERM 2

WHAT IS A STRUCTURE?
A structure is something that is built, made or put together in a particular way. Structures are produced when different parts are joined together.

Activity 1 – Definition of structure:
1.1) Define the term structure using your own words.
1.2) Identify any six structures found in your home.
1.2) Draw any one structure from the list that you have mentioned above and explain why do you think it is important.

PURPOSE OF STRUCTURES
1) To support something, for example a crane.
2) To contain things, for example a house.
3) To span (to cover the length of an object from end to end) a gap, for example a bridge.

Activity 2 – Purpose of a structure:

Identify from the list below the purpose of each structure.

2.1.1) Bicycle helmet
2.1.2) Box
2.1.3) Human skeleton
2.1.4) Bridge
2.1.5) Frame watch tower
2.1.5) Tortoise shell
2.1.6) House

2.2) List the three purposes of a structure and provide your own example for each mentioned.
