Ladysmith KZN: Police urge caution after armed robbery in Delhi Road

The suspects cleared out the safe

Three unknown armed suspects robbed a business in Delhi Road on the evening of Tuesday, May 25. The robbers ordered the staff to lie on the ground, with guns to their heads.

The business owner was taken by one of  the suspects to his office at gunpoint and was forced to open the safe where all the money was kept. The suspects cleared out the safe, and an undisclosed sum of money was stolen. 

In addition, the staff were robbed of their cell-phones and the money in their tills. According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyati, it is believed that a Samsung S21 Ultra and Note10 were stolen as well.

The suspects fled the scene without firing any shots, and no one was injured during the robbery.

Police are currently investigating the case and no arrests have yet been made.

The SAPS are requesting anyone with information that could help them trace and arrest the suspects to contact 0860010111 or use the ‘MySAPS’ App.

“People must be vigilant when they are in their businesses or walking when it is dark or late in the evening. Business people are requested to close their businesses early to avoid being an easy target for criminals.

“Criminals are always monitoring people’s movements. You are urged to make sure that money is kept in a safe place and that all the doors are locked.

“In addition, business people are urged to hire security for their own safety,” said Captain Nyati.
