ESTCOURT KZN: Young leader calls on unity against seismic survey

A discussion will be held on December 14 at Riverdale Primary School from 9am

Girl Guide leader and ambassador of Unyaka Wakho Youth Foundation Advocates for Change, Namutula Mukelabai, invites all members of the guiding movement and the foundation to discuss and plan a way forward regarding Shell’s seismic survey in our oceans.

A discussion will be held on December 14 at Riverdale Primary School in Rensburgdrift from 9am.

“Let us take a stand as we are totally against the exploitation of the ocean and sea animals. We call on the Minister for the Environment Barbara Creecy, to withdraw her approval of Italian oil corporation ENI and Sasol’s application (ER236),” says Mukelabai.

She explains that the risks of Operation Phakisa include:

*Melting over a hundred square kms of Arctic ice,
*Acoustic pollution and trauma from seismic surveys,
*Oils spills and chronic pollution,
*Introducing invasive species,
*Disturbing our coastal and marine ecosystems.
