Newcastle Municipality warns of power outages as planned maintenance takes place

The maintenance is critical in order to reduce long outages caused by poor maintenance and vegetation under 132kV lines.

The Newcastle Municipality has warned residents of a planned maintenance / power outage and a risk of tripping. This is due to the ‘aging infrastructure being stressed by extended load shedding and other unforeseen circumstances.’

This will result in a planned outage that will affect various residential areas in Newcastle West from 08:00 to 13:00 today, March 20.

The following areas will be affected:

  • Ncandu Park
  • Amajuba Park
  • Barry Hertzorg Park
  • Schuinshoogte
  • Signall Hill
  • Amiel Park
  • Sunnyridge
  • Hutten Heights
  • Avairy hill
  • Lennoxton
  • Suryaville
  • Fernwood
  • Sunset view

A ‘trip risk’ exists at the central A substations (load shedding zone 3) in order to keep CBD operations running.

This maintenance is critical in order to reduce long outages caused by poor maintenance and vegetation under the 132kV lines.

“Residents are reminded to keep in mind that this is not an outage, but rather a risk of trip for the CBD,” the Municipality said in a statement.

“Newcastle Municipality strongly advises residents to treat all electrical installations as live, particularly during the planned outages. We ask residents to be patient as our teams work quickly to respond to the crisis.”
