DA fires first ‘salvoes’ of 2024 general election

" "There can be no doubt that the ANC has wrecked local government across KZN and it is up to the IFP and DA to restore faith and trust in the political process."

The first ‘shots’ of next year’s general elections have been fired, so to speak…
Democratic Alliance (DA) provincial chairperson Dean MacPherson called in at Dannhauser and Dundee in a bid to encourage people to ensure that they are correctly registered to vote and to explain the historic service delivery pact in KZN, signed last week between the DA and IFP.

“The DA and IFP share a strong commitment to Constitutionalism, the rule of law and service delivery improvement. We are also parties of government that govern in various local municipalities across the country and are only two of three parties that have governed a province,” MacPherson said.

“There can be no doubt that the ANC has wrecked local government across KZN and it is up to the IFP and DA to restore faith and trust in the political process. That is why we believe we are able to come together and put the interests of citizens first.
“This shared agreement is a major turning point in the politics of our province and will bring much-needed stability to a number of municipalities, including Endumeni, where the IFP and DA work together.” He told supporters that the party and the IFP have drawn up key objectives to make the pact work.

These include ensuring that communities have access to basic service delivery, relieving residents and businesses from crippling load-shedding by accessing affordable and sustainable electricity, bringing in investment and jobs to the local economy and making it easier for businesses to trade, supporting devolution of power within the constitutional and legislative framework, eliminating corruption and patronage networks, and promoting multilingualism and enhancing our heritage landscape.

Local councillors Naresh Gopie, Salim Abdool and Sibusiso Mbatha were present, along with Maliyakhe Shelembe (Umzinyathi constituency chairman).

Community members were given the opportunity to raise their grievances over the lack of service delivery from both municipalities in the Endumeni and Umzinyathi districts, with MacPherson stressing that only by giving the DA a chance to govern will circumstances change – Umgeni Municipality being a ‘shining example of what a DA-led municipality can achieve’.
