The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Umzinyathi District has strengthened its crime prevention efforts through the handover of essential equipment to Community in Blue patrollers.
District Community Policing Forum (CPF) representatives and SAPS management officially handed over the items, which included high-visibility vests, heaters, patrol boots, first aid kits and uniforms.
The patrollers play a key role in supporting police through community-based crime prevention initiatives.
“This equipment will enhance safety and operational capacity”
Police spokesperson Siyabonga Nkwanyana said the equipment would improve both safety and efficiency.
“The provision of this equipment is aimed at enhancing the operational capacity and safety of community patrollers who volunteer their time to assist SAPS in safeguarding communities,” he said.
Nkwanyana added that the initiative forms part of SAPS Umzinyathi District’s ongoing commitment to strengthening partnerships with community structures.
“By equipping CPF and Community in Blue members with the necessary resources, SAPS aims to improve visibility, increase community participation in policing and ultimately reduce crime within the district,” he said.
He also thanked volunteers for their continued dedication.
“SAPS Umzinyathi District appreciates the commitment shown by CPF members and Community in Blue patrollers, whose efforts play a vital role in creating safer communities,” he said.
