DJS athletes endure extreme heat at SA Youth Championships

The athletes had to endure extreme heat of 40°C and after a two-hour wait in the sun for their turn to jump, all were drained of their energy.

Two Dundee Junior School (DJS) athletes took part in the SA Sub-Youth Athletics Championships in Secunda and performed very well, despite the debilitating heat they had to endure.
Novelee Vorster cleared 1.55m in high jump to earn herself a third place. Unfortunately, however, due to a technicality, she was placed fourth.
In this event, Justin Duvenage jumped a height of 1.6m to share fourth place, along with three others.
He is also ranked in the top 8 in his division in the country.

For young athletes from a small town like Dundee, competing against SA’s top athletes is a huge achievement.
Congratulations to Justin and Novelee. Keep it up – you have a bright future ahead of you!
