Ward 20 gets clean for festive season

Residents are encouraged to report illegal dumping to Public Safety

The Community Work Programme (CWP) team from Alfred Duma Local Municipality went to Ward 20, Acaciavale, today (November 22) to conduct a festive season clean-up.

The members will spread across the ward, clearing up the streets and illegal dumping sites in the area.

Ward 20 Cllr Abbas Warasally said this is the very last clean-up campaign before the festive season.

“We know most of our residents are expecting visitors during this period and we don’t want our visitors coming to a filthy place. We urge all residents to stop illegal dumping, as it jeopardises the work that is being done by the municipality. Also, they must only take out their waste bags on a Monday when the municipality collects refuse in this ward,” said Warasally.

He encourages by-law officers to be more visible in the area, saying that helps a lot to curtail illegal dumping.

Warasally added that liquor outlets are an additional concern, as they have bottles lying around, which are potentially harmful to children; there is a school nearby. “By-law officers should help us to force the owners of these businesses to at least get a waste skip or bigger bins. Also, the shops in Foxglove Avenue should appropriately dump their waste and bottles so as to keep the area clean,” he concluded.
