Izwilabantu, municipalities host health drive for senior citizens

Senior citizens in Ward 23 attended a health awareness event promoting wellness and healthy living.

The Izwilabantu Forum NPC, in partnership with AbaQulusi Local Municipality and Zululand District Municipality, presented a Senior Citizens Health Awareness programme for the elderly of Ward 23 on July 11. Held at the Cliffdale Community Hall, the aim was to educate the elderly on health issues and to highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle, which in turn improves quality of life.
AbaQulusi Mayor Sifiso Mkhwanazi and Speaker NP Ndlela, together with local and district leadership, graced the event with their presence and honoured the attendees.
Although the programme was aimed at celebrating the elderly, it also provided a platform for residents to express their concerns and the challenges they face.
Mkhwanazi expressed his gratitude to the senior citizens of Ward 23 for attending in large numbers, and called for stronger bonds and unity in order to address their needs and concerns.
“We need to build stronger collaborations with as many departments, organisations and government entities as possible to attend to the needs of older people,” said Mkhwanazi.
In closing, the mayor wished the senior citizens a long, fruitful and healthy life.
