Girl Guides lay roots for future generations

When one legacy died, the Girl Guides started a new one

It all began in 2020 when Girl Guides came back from the June holidays to find that one of the biggest trees at Themba Primary School had fallen at the side of the fence.

It happened to be a tree that most learners would sit under during lunchtime, but mostly, it was one of the Girl Guides’ meeting points.

For this reason, the girls and their Guider, Nondumiso Khumalo, took the initiative to get a new tree and plant it.

A plan that started in 2020 has come to fruition.

They also decided to get a second tree to provide shelter while the learners are waiting for their transport.

The girls were very excited to plant the tree, even though they understood that this won’t benefit them, but rather other children in years to come.
