Prayers answered for new computers
The sponsors said they were honoured to be part of uplifting the lives of the children
A prayer has been answered for the Drakensview Primary School fraternity, specifically for teacher Mrs Gail Hohls and the ‘Learners with Special Education Needs’ (LSEN) class. Through persistence and prayer, Hohls was able to secure 10 computers for the LSEN class, also known as the Opportunity Class.
Last month, this educator was a guest on East Coast Radio’s ‘Big Favour’ with Darren Maule, where she received the exciting news.
Speaking to the Estcourt News shortly after the radio interview, Hohls explained that old computers were donated in 2012 and these were refurbished for use in the Opportunity Class.
“The computers took a long time to boot up and would often ‘hang’ while the children were working. And there was no budget for newer computers. Last year, we decided to pack them away and the learners and I prayed together, asking God for five computers,” Hohls explained.
On the last day of last term, she decided to send an email to ‘Big Favour’, requesting five or six refurbished computers. She was in for a surprise when, weeks later, she received a call from East Coast Radio, telling her that a sponsor had been secured to provide 10 new computers.
“I was called to Durban for an interview to meet with the sponsors. My head was in the clouds that day. It was so amazing,” Hohls describes.
During the radio interview, she met with Iain Emerson (CEO at Netconfig Innovative IT Solutions) and Martin Aylward (Siyaxhuma Innovative Connectivity), who would be providing and setting up the computers.
Meanwhile, back at school, the LSEN class was ecstatic – singing and dancing and looking forward to seeing and working on their new computers.

June 14 was the day when the new computers were set up in the class, and an official handover and gratitude ceremony was held.
The sponsors were thanked for their generous donation, which principal Pieter Brits labelled as not only a blessing to the school but to the community as a whole.
Emerson and Aylward said they were honoured to be part of uplifting the lives of the children. A special gift for the sponsors was prepared by the grateful learners, which featured drawings made by them.
