Five Cent Piece – What are words?

What are words? Words are written down, hastily, or with a lot of thought behind them. Black and white, bright pink, green or red. Words are everywhere.

But what do they mean? How much can the written word affect your life? Five Cent Piece once again found himself contemplating the mysteries of the universe, while sipping a cup of coffee.

While quietly singing the praises of coffee beans, caffeine and sugar, the thoughtful musings turned outward. Far flung outward. Space age outward.

Twiddling his pen between thumb and forefinger, he scribbled hastily as the witness recounted what he had seen. Fingers hover over his keyboard, contemplating the next paragraph. The keys rattle, the pen scribbles. Write, rite and right.

There was no ‘Hallelujah’ moment. There was no sudden light bulb blinking understanding. Words will, perhaps forever, remain a mystery. Their effect however, lasts forever.

An interesting exercise. Write down your thoughts. When you think of murder, write it down. When you contemplate your supper, write it down. Keep a record for a week.

Read it after a while, and take notice of your choice of words. If nothing, reading about the feelings you had a week ago is very entertaining.

If in serious doubt of your sanity after you have read your notes, don’t self medicate. Rather go to a shrink. They give little pieces of paper to tell you you’re crazy.

See? Words are the difference between sanity and rationality. Go figure.
