In life, one will have discussions with people you find interesting. Some you will find odd, others you will find irritating. And then, there exists a certain type of person who lives only to make you scream in frustration.

Five Cent Piece sat across one of the interesting ones, drinking in the vitriolic spewing from his heart. The drink of wisdom often tastes bitter, yet will prevail in logic and righteousness.

The Man spoke about issues close to his heart. His animated mannerisms alone made him worth listening to, and watching. The Man was no fool. Headstrong, certainly. And he definitely does not entertain fools lightly.

Conversations like this one are what bring a person back to earth. You remember again why you love life. Old causes are reborn, with flame and passion. You have absolutely no doubt why you do what you do. It is within these moments of rare clarity, when lifelong dreams seem closer than ever.

“You see, there are ten rondavels at Nkandla. He has six wives…the other four?” he pauses, smiling. He slaps his large hand down on the table.

Five Cent Piece finally exhales. He didn’t even realise he was holding his breath the entire time. Okay, take stock. Where are you? Why are you here?

As The Man trudges away with his determined gait, Five Cent Piece can’t help but wonder when people like The Man stopped being born.
