I was very grateful to receive a call from a regular reader of this column last week.
The caller phoned to say thank you. I don’t know the caller and we’ve never met, but it was so welcome and rewarding. It got me thinking about the importance of saying good things when we see, read or experience good things.
As a nation, we have the tendency to complain. And although the world and our country are faced by increasing challenges, life continues to be full of positive things. Sometimes we need to slow down and appreciate them.
A good way to achieve this is by sayings: Compliment the people around you; share positive stories at the dinner table; find good things to say about people before looking for the worst and; share happy memories from your childhood and youth with your children. Thank you to my caller.
You made me feel appreciated, which is a good source of motivation to keep on going.
