So the term ‘cold turkey’ describes putting a stop to an addictive substance on the spot and never touching it again.
Five Cent Piece has tried, and failed, miserably.
The decision to cut the nicotine sticks was taken after a heart-attack inducing session with a calculator. Yes, the figure on the screen could not be accurate. So Five Cent Piece started over again, and reached the same total.
It’s a moment when you realise it just isn’t worth it. It’s a moment filled with earnest motivation to stop. It’s an inspired conviction to live a healthier live.
And then you stumble, fall and light up another cigarette. And mixed with the guilt of not following through is the satisfaction…
There can be no doubt, stopping after inhaling roughly 40 a day is no joke. But it can be done. So far, Five Cent Piece realised survival is a real possibility without a cigarette in hand. Life without nicotine does carry on.
Cutting down from two packs a day to six cigarettes in one day and now, as the keyboard rattles, only one for the day so far, Five Cent Piece is feeling optimistic.
The next challenge? Having a cup of coffee in the morning, without smoking.
