“If you believe you can make a difference, then you will make a difference.” Lindsay Fox
Making a difference should inspire young people to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. Young people should have the opportunity to make a positive contribution to their community. It may seem impossible to change the world but by simply making a difference you’ve taken the first step in doing so. We are all gifted with a unique set of skills and abilities. With those abilities we can make extra-ordinary things happen in the world around us. It is completely up to you whether you want your life to make a difference and what difference you want it to make. Many people set goals for their lives and want to be remembered as visionaries, they want to change and save the world.
Others want to be remembered as a kind person whom was always willing to help. It must be such an incredible feeling to help make a change in someone’s life. It’s a normal sight to see someone get treated unfairly. It happens both socially and professionally where individuals who deserve recognition do not get it. By taking up the fight and ensuring that others get what they deserve, will make you an agent of change. You will make a lasting impact on their lives and you will be rewarded. The law of karma goes “whatever you do, you will get back three fold” helping others is a selfless act that should done without fear.
In truth we might all be here to help each other, we might all be part of a machine that fosters co-operation, or not. We might just be here to make the best of the situation for ourselves. Helping others brings joy and prosperity into your own life, so for whatever reason you choose to help others, it will always help you in return. The difference between stopping half way and finishing is not much in term of the work you put, but worlds apart in difference of the individual you are helping. So don’t hesitate to lend a helping hand.
1. Clear Vision – As mentioned above, a “change agent” does not have to be the person in authority, but they do however have to have a clear vision and be able to communicate that clearly with others. Where people can be frustrated if they feel that someone is all over the place on what they see as important and tend to change their vision often. This will scare away others as they are not sure whether they are on a sinking ship and start to looking for ways out.
2. Patient yet persistent – Change does not happen overnight and most people know that. To have sustainable change that is meaningful to people, it is something that they will have to embrace and see importance. Most people need to experience something before they really understand that. The persistence comes in that you will take opportunities to help people get a step closer often when they are ready, not just giving up on them after the first try, not everyone move at the same pace. Every step forward is a step closer to a goal; change agents just help to make sure that people are moving ahead.
3. Strong relationships built on trust – People will not want to grow if they do not trust the person that is pushing the change. The change agents I have seen are extremely approachable and reliable. You should never be afraid to approach that individual based on their “authority” and usually they will go out of their way to connect with you.
