Madam – Petrol is going up, the price of food is going up and our pay wages are staying the same.
I recently read in your paper that the economy of Newcastle is not anywhere near where it could be. There is a nationwide shortage of jobs and even skilled labour, so the low-paying jobs that the average citizen has, is something they need to be grateful for either way.
Newcastle has so much potential that is not being met by potential employers who choose instead to give jobs to friends and family who don’t have the proper skill sets to do the job properly, and this starts from the top down.
As a country we will never prosper if we subscribe to the mentality of doing favours for people who technically don’t deserve it. It doesn’t give the rest of ‘us’ a chance, especially with jobs in government. You only have to look at the high-paying jobs in this town where the incompetence of the ‘people in charge’ runs high, to know that the person who worked hard his or her whole life is being neglected in favour of favours.
Yes I am bitter. As a qualified individual who has send hundreds of CVs with no offers or even call backs for interviews, it becomes disheartening to know your own home town will not take care of you.
So the next time people question why the young, skilled labour force is leaving for prospects in bigger cities – now you know. What other choice do we have?
