Letter: My two cents on new year’s resolutions

Everyone talks about new year's resolutions, and I think it goes without saying that most people have given up on their good intentions within the first week. I don't think this is because of a lack of trying, but rather because good intentions fall by the wayside when dealing with everyday life and the stress that accompanies work, families, making ends meet et cetera.

Madam – A very happy new year to you and your team.

Everyone talks about new year’s resolutions, and I think it goes without saying that most people have given up on their good intentions within the first week. I don’t think this is because of a lack of trying, but rather because good intentions fall by the wayside when dealing with everyday life and the stress that accompanies work, families, making ends meet et cetera.

So this year, I decided I was not going to stress myself out by making dozens of promises that are destined to go unfulfilled.

Rather, I reflected quietly on the highs and lows of 2016, and thought carefully about what went wrong, but also what went right. I am so thankful to have a roof over my head, a job that I enjoy, friends who care, and a partner who loves me.

Those are my highs.

My lows include not being able to stand up for myself, not realising my own worth until being forced to, maybe partying too much, and a couple of other bad habits we don’t need to get into.

So, at the beginning of a new year, my resolutions are:

To love more, give more, laugh more, learn more and live more.

I don’t think any of those are unattainable goals, do you?

Have a lekker 2017!
