Work your magic wand and slenderise me … if you have the will power

Am I the only one who never keeps to their dieting schedule?

Am I the only one who never keeps to their dieting schedule?

I always plan ahead and visualise myself wearing those size 34 pants. I imagine myself in a sexy bikini with a flat tummy and maybe abs to finish off my look. Boom, reality hits as I see my potbelly and flabby arms. I was never heavy. I remember when growing I wore size 30 for most of my teenage years. Body image problems were not even in my vocabulary. I never needed assistance in the clothing store’s fitting room. I was a sports fanatic and life was great back then. I played soccer, tennis and even took up swimming as an extramural activity in high school. I never saw the need to “watch what I eat”.

The funny part is that I don’t even come from a family that suffers from obesity. There was never really anyone overweight in my family, oh except my cousin who ate four Weetbix in the morning with juice on the side – my goodness (I use to wonder where all that food is going to). She was always the chubby one, but we all thought it’s because she was a growing baby.

Ten years down the line, after having two babies – cesarean mind you – my tummy still looks like I’m at least a few months pregnant. As for my breasts, I’m sure they can breastfeed the whole nation. Sometimes I wonder where did I go wrong or did I suddenly develop “fat metabolism” along the way?

So after college, I entered the working class and I gained so much of weight that year I could not even recognize myself in the mirror. I honestly think that working at a call centre had a major setback on my figure, as all we did was eat and talk the whole day. Oh did I mention that we had Steers and Spar right under our noses? Temptation never loved us.

So after having kids, I tried dieting which only lasted 24 hours. Imagine, after starving myself the whole day I went back to my unhealthy eating habits the next day… what a waste it was. Then I joined the gym, but even the commitment was cheated on. I would go to the gym only to come back to my granny’s pap and stew.

So as a grown woman, I have decided that my relationship with food is stronger than anything and we are inseparable. Dieting is for the disciplined and as for the gym, it’s for the fitness freaks of which I’m not going to be one any day soon. As for my dieting diaries, they will always have food stains on as a reminder that at least I tried at some point. LOL
