The Ladysmith Historical Society was established in 1968 and since then, the aim of the society has been to preserve the past for future generations.
Ladysmith is rich in history and forms part of the battlefields route that attracts many tourists to the town.
There are a total of 52 members who gather monthly at the Old Toll House in Settlers Drive, where talks are given on subjects of local historical interest.
The society also regularly organises outings to places of historical significance in the region so that the members can enjoy themselves while learning something new.
The Ladysmith Historical Society assists Amafa KwaZulu-Natal with regards to the conservation of historical buildings, and the upkeep of monuments and grave sites.
All individuals passionate about history or learning about the past are welcome to join. For more information, contact Johan Matthee on 0837851022
