We are already in the third month of the year and I know I am not speaking only for myself when I say those New Years resolutions have been sadly chucked out the window.
So how is 2019 treating you so far? This was a question thrown to me by my 12-year-old cousin and I was astonished that she could ask me that so I just dismissed her by saying all is well. As I digested her curious question it made me wonder about all the resolutions that have failed over the years.
On New Year’s Eve, I always promise myself that I will save more and go to the gym more, only to find myself eating a juicy burger the next day and washing it down with Coke and having a long nap afterward. Trust me I do feel guilty when I wake up especially when my 80-year-old granny laughs at me for making such resolutions and not sticking to them.
Not all hope is lost though cause I am currently saving more than I was last year, but I just hope and pray that it won’t all be blown in December that dreadful month of spending like there is no tomorrow.
So back to my cousin’s question about the first three months of the year. This also made me think about how much has happened since the year started. Not so long ago we had pastor Alph Lukau of Alleluia Ministries bringing a “dead” man back to life during a church service, and pupils killing each other. It is sad what is currently happening in our country and, at the rate we are going, it seems like more and more deaths of scholars are being reported on in the media almost daily.
As a parent of young children who have just started school, it is really frightening to see such things happening. I always jokingly say I will homeschool my children, but the way things are in our country I wish I really could and this way they would always be within arms reach so I could protect them.
We have nine more months left before we wrap up this year and there is still a lot that we can all still individually accomplish. They say, “work smarter and not harder” and that is exactly what I intend doing for the next nine months.
Make small accomplishable weekly goals and achieve them every week. It doesn’t have to be academic goals or life-long goals, it can just be small things like reading a book or joining a chess club, or whatever you fancy. Just go out there and make the most of the nine months left and don’t be too hard on yourself.
If you have accomplished six things from your checklist you can be proud of yourself. Let’s make the most of the nine months left.
