The Newcastle Newpro Golf Club hosted a charity golf day for the Islamic Relief South Africa at the Kilbarchan Golf Club on Sunday, May 15.

The Newcastle Newpro Golf Club hosted a charity golf day for the Islamic Relief South Africa at the Kilbarchan Golf Club on Sunday, May 15.

According to Islamic Relief Durban branch manager, Shiraz Ismail, the purpose of the day was to raise funds for various orphanages in South Africa.

Mr Shiraz said Islamic Relief took care of about 1 000 orphans in South Africa, and about 40 000 globally, in areas which are war- and conflict-ridden, poverty-stricken and wherever natural disasters occurred.

“Our core focus is the protection of life and dignity, empowering, campaigning for change and to strengthen Islamic Relief families,” he said.

Golfers from Newcastle, Ladysmith, Dundee and Dannhauser attended the event with friends and family, and enjoyed the warm sun and a relaxing game of golf. Hot dog stalls were sponsored and a jumping castle kept the young ones busy.

The winners of the day who took home gifts such as sunglasses, watches and microwave ovens were as follows:

– Justice Mazibuko- 38 points

– Shakil Kalideen- 37 points

– Shahid Abdulla- 36 points

– Issy Adam- 35 points

– Cassim Badat- 35 points.

– Longest Drive – Irshaad Peer.

– Nearest to pins – Cassim Badat and Muhammed Kadir.

The organisers of the event thanked all who attended, as well as the sponsors of the food stalls and prizes.
